Royal Goedewaagen’s story of clay pipe manufacturing started in 1779 when Dirck Goedewaagen became member of the Gouda pipe makers guild. A century later, in 1853, Pieter Goedewaagen bought ‘De Star’ from his father-in-law Aart de Jong. Other acquisitions of clay pipe maker factories followed and from then on Royal Goedewaagen was the biggest manufacturer of pipes in The Netherlands. Nowadays, the clay pipes of Royal Goedewaagen are still traditionally crafted.
